The latest addition to the Cosmic Christmas Museum, a copy of The Nelvana Story, signed by the founders of Nelvana, Michael Hirsh (Producer of A Cosmic Christmas), Patrick Loubert (Producer and originator of the story of A Cosmic Christmas). There’s a third signature that I can hope is that of Clive A. Smith (Director of A Cosmic Christmas), though I’m not sure it is.

I already owned a copy of the book, but when an autographed copy came up, I had to grab it. The seller was only sure of Michael Hirsh and Patrick Loubert’s signature. It certainly makes sense it might be Clive A. Smith’s signature, but it’s very different from the initials he put on production folders from 1977. A lot can change in thirty years though, so who knows. You can definitely see Clive A. Smith in it if you want, but it’s a signature, I’m sure you can see a lot of things if you want to badly enough. Regardless, it’s another cool piece of the Nelvana story and of history. And it’s a good book, though it’s probably more for shareholders than it is for anyone looking for dirt from the early days. It’s fantastic to see so many great pieces of Nelvana history all in one place though.

Can anyone confirm? Is this Clive A. Smith’s signature from 2001? Oh well, don’t tell me if it’s not. I like to imagine it is…
(Patrick signs:
‘To Jim? who was never afraid to say what he thought (this is good) Regards,
Patrick’
No last name, so I assume it was a friend.)

When I first saw this photo of the tree at Peter’s place, I was amazed by the details and the colour. We’ve survived on a pretty washed out transfer for so long, it’s easy to forget how crisp, clear and clean it was. I really do hope there will be a high definition release one day. A Cosmic Christmas’ artistry deserves its due…
